Four factories razed


BATU PAHAT: Four factories in a light industrial zone in Tongkang Pechah were damaged in an early morning blaze.
Fire gutted a textile factory, a sandal factory and two plastic factories during the 4am incident yesterday, with the total loss estimated at over RM1mil.
A sandal factory worker, identified only as Sun, was sleeping alone on the top floor of the double-storey building and managed to escape through the window.
Damage control: Firemen dousing the factories in Tokang Pechah near Batu Pahat Friday.
He said he woke up suddenly and saw flames and thick smoke.
“The stairway was engulfed in flames, so I had no choice but to climb out the window. I only managed to save my handphone.”
The person-in-charge of the plastic factories, identified only as Tam, received a call about the fire at 4am.
“I rushed over, but by the time I arrived, both the double-storey buildings had been engulfed in flames,” he said at the scene.
Thirty firemen from the Jalan Timah Sari fire station and 10 volunteers helped put out the fire.
